Vacation Rentals in Lake Tahoe

When vacationing in the Lake Tahoe region, there are a number of options as far as lodging is concerned. There are certainly many resorts and hotels available and plenty of campgrounds for those who prefer staying in the great outdoors or enjoy pulling their RV with them. However, many people opt for leasing one of the thousands of vacations rentals available at this popular vacation destination.

Vacation rentals carry with them a number of distinct advantages for those traveling to the Tahoe area. First of all, they provide a wide range of choices. In Lake Tahoe, rentals can include a variety of condominiums that are either lakeside or provide close proximity to the many ski resorts in and around town. Condos generally range from studio-type units to up to 3 or 4 bedrooms. You can find them on both the Nevada and California sides and in South or North Lake Tahoe in popular spots like Heavenly or Incline Village. Rates vary according to size and season but most include use of the resorts’ amenities, like swimming pools, fitness centers, and more.

Many families or friends like to travel to Lake Tahoe together to enjoy all the area has to offer. For these visitors, larger homes with multiple bedrooms and baths are ideal and there are plenty of those available as well. Often more secluded than the condos, they offer lots of space inside and often outside as well and may include backyards and places for the kids to run around and enjoy the abundant sunshine. Some provide a lake view; others are just a short distance from some of Tahoe’s ski areas. You may find amenities like private pools and hot tubs, internet access, pool tables, and more. Some also have boat docks for summertime visitors.

A distinct advantage of leasing a vacation rental rather than making hotel reservations is the fact that you’ll have access to – at the very least – a kitchenette and often a full kitchen. Though many people vow not to cook while on vacation, the presence of a kitchen does indeed give guests the option of not eating every meal at a restaurant. This saves considerable money. Eating just one meal in can save a family of four anywhere from $20 to $50 a day or more. Those numbers really add up in a week’s time!

Privacy is an issue as well. Standard hotel rooms generally include just one room with multiple beds and a single bathroom. In a vacation rental, bedrooms are private and there are often multiple bathrooms. This provides parents with an often much-needed respite from the kids at the end of a long day and having more than one bathroom can make getting ready in the morning a much shorter process.

Prices for vacation rentals in Lake Tahoe are often more affordable than hotels and resorts, especially during off season. Rental owners offer special pricing for times of the year when the crowds aren’t as plentiful, so if you have some flexibility in your travel schedule, you may indeed benefit from rental pricing. Even during busy season, owners are motivated to keep their homes full so you can catch some good rates, especially at the last minute when owners find themselves with an empty house.

Vacation rentals are available from local real estate agencies or can be found on numerous by-owner websites that cater to rental unit owners.
