Galactic Tours in Lake Tahoe

There are a number of ways to tour the Lake Tahoe region, but there’s none that quite compares to Tahoe Galactic Tours. Quite different from anything else you might find offered in the area, Galactic Tours takes you on a nighttime adventure that lets you admire what’s above the lake and mountains – the sky! Perhaps better dubbed an “astronomy” tour than a galactic tour, this adventure is, nonetheless, quite enjoyable, especially for those who have a penchant for science and the study of the stars and other celestial beings. It’s suitable for the whole family and can be enjoyed by kids about ages 8 and up (younger if they have a real interest in science or astronomy) though it is open to all ages, including little ones.

Tahoe Galactic Tours, described as “a journey through the stars and planets”, are led by guides that are experts in the field of astronomy and know everything they need to know about the night sky over Lake Tahoe. As the tour begins, the guide uses a high-powered laser pointer to provide an overview of the various constellations one can view from the lake region. The second half of the tour includes the opportunity to view objects through one of the company’s very powerful high-tech telescopes.

Different celestial objects are available for viewing at different times of the year, the tour company points out, so guests can enjoy a different experience each time they sign up for a Galactic Tour. Viewing conditions also change from evening to evening depending on the weather, so there may be some evenings that the tours are not available. Also, if the viewing experience for your tour turns out to be a bust, the company will not charge guests for the tour as the weather in Lake Tahoe can be quite unpredictable.

Children under 6 years of age can come along on the Tahoe Galactic Tour free of charge and there is discount pricing available for youth ages 6 through 15. Anyone under the age of 15 must be accompanied on the tour by an adult over the age of 18. Group rates are available for parties of 10 or more. Those wishing to book tours during their stay in Tahoe can do so by calling 775-230-9081 or can make reservations or gather more information by visiting the tour company’s website at www.tahoegalactictours.com.
